My passion for dinosaurs will never go extinct.

Spinosaurus

By Hojung Kwak

Spinosaurus is my favorite dinosaur because it stands out from all the others. Unlike most meat-eating dinosaurs, it wasn’t just a land hunter—it was built to live both on land and in water. With its long crocodile-like snout and sharp teeth, it could catch fish just as easily as it could take down other prey. I also love the huge sail on its back, which makes it look so unique and mysterious. Scientists are still debating what the sail was used for—maybe to attract mates, regulate body temperature, or make it look bigger to scare rivals. That mystery makes Spinosaurus even more fascinating to me.

Another reason it’s my favorite is its sheer size. Some fossils suggest Spinosaurus may have been even larger than the famous Tyrannosaurus rex, which is really impressive. Knowing it could grow over 15 meters (50 feet) long makes it feel like a true giant of the dinosaur world. Its semi-aquatic lifestyle, unusual body shape, and the fact that paleontologists are still learning new things about it make Spinosaurus not only powerful but also one of the most intriguing dinosaurs ever discovered.

Dinosaur Exploration

I have had a lifelong passion for dinosaurs, nurtured since early childhood through watching documentaries and reading books. Over the years, this interest has grown into a personal pursuit of exploring real-world fossil sites and museums. I have visited several major dinosaur tracksites and museums in Korea and even compiled a photo journal to capture these experiences. Some of the most memorable places I explored include the Goseong Dinosaur Museum, Haenam Dinosaur Tracks, Boseong Dinosaur Egg Site, Yeosu Archipelago Fossil Site, Jeonnam Monument, and the Hwaseong Dinosaur Egg Site.
